As per the words of wisdom from our neighbour Ed, we cut down the spruce tree in our front yard today. It was a beautiful tree, but unfortunately it had been planted in the wrong place. As it spread it's limbs, it would hang over the sidewalk and our driveway. Every 3 or 4 years we paid to have it trimmed back, but the $300 or $400 price tag got to be a little expensive. Besides the monetary cost, the tree also blocked our view of the world, and detracted from the street appeal of our house.

We are working on a facelift on our front yard. Last summer we replaced our front step, with a plan to create a more welcoming entrance to the property. We have never had a front walkway leading to our door, instead requiring visitors to walk up the driveway. Often visitors are unsure of how to reach our door, and many walk  up the neighbours driveway instead. Hopefully, a new paving stone walk and some carefully placed landscaping will provide a major facelift to the front of the house, and provide a welcoming entrance.

However, our beautiful spruce tree may live on in another form. We didn't have it completely removed, with an 8 foot stump still remaining. Our plan is to find someone to carve the stump into a unique sculpture for something a little different on our street. The search continues.
